Accelerated Reader Program & Awards

Students love the Accelerated Reader Program. Each week, the students read books and take tests on the computer to earn Accelerated Reader points. They use these points each six weeks to purchase prizes at the Accelerated Reader Store.
This program encourages students to read, while both testing and expanding their reading comprehension ability. Many students can read well and quickly, but don't comprehend or remember what they have read. This is very important to work on this skill and make it strong. Not only will it make them better students, but it will help the students during their TAKS testing. The Accelerated Reading Program rewards the students for their level of comprehension they have achieved on each book. They get very excited when they get to go to the store to shop it really encourages them to read more!!
The A/R store, located in the Larson Library, opens one day each six weeks. Check the Calendar Link for A/R Store 2011 Openings. The store runs from 8:30 AM until around 3:00 PM. All grades come in one class at a time throughout the day. The students come to shop and trade in their A/R points they have earned throughout the six weeks for various prizes. Every student in every grade gets to visit the A/R Store no matter how many or few points they have earned. The Accelerated Reader Program continues to be a great program that helps motivate our students to keep reading, and rewards them for doing so through the A/R Store and its prizes.
The Accelerated Reader Program Coordinators are Melissa Shimanek, Gretchen Hosea, and Tracey Vasek. They will work with Librarian Lori Jones to make the AR Store a fun and meaningful experience for our Larson students.
