Red Ribbon Week
The Arlington Independent School District Red Ribbon Week 2011 will be Monday, October 24, through Friday, October 28.
The National Red Ribbon Week 2011 Theme is "The Choice For Me is to Be Drug Free"
Red Ribbon Week began after the death of Enrique "Kiki" Camarena of the United States Drug Enforcement Agency. To commemorate his efforts to stop illegal drug activities, citizens in his home town of Calexico, CA began wearing red ribbons. Subsequently, the California State PTA recognized a Red Ribbon Week and in 1988 this grew to a nation wide event sponsored by the National PTA. To learn the history of Red Ribbon Week, visit:
